Evie is loving her preschool! There are quite a few boys (like 75%) so Evie has started playing like a boy. There is a boy in her class that loves to play "Superman!" and Evie likes to run around the house with her hands up like she's flying and sing "Supermaaaan!" She 's quick to get upset when Owen messes with something she has. I'm not sure if it's just this stage in development that's causing it or being around other children more. She's starting to remind me of that cartoon with the seagulls that say "Mine Mine!" Was that Finding Nemo?
Her language development is progressing. She has started using pronouns and prepositions almost overnight. It's amazing what she remembers, too! She'll mention something from several months ago that even I forgot.
Evie is getting really into playing pretend.
She loves to play what she calls "Happy Birthday to You." She likes to throw parties for her dolls and they all wear birthday hats and eat birthday cake. We have these puffy magnets with letters of the alphabet and at some point they morphed into pieces of birthday cake. She will set all of her dolls in chairs and give them birthday cake on wooden plates from her kitchen (and the pot and frying pan if she runs out of plates). Owen is also included if he's sitting in his booster seat. Thankfully, the magnets are safe for Owen to chew on.
She has one doll she calls "Doctor Frog" who is the resident caretaker of the other dolls. She likes take one of her dolls "to the doctor" and Doctor Frog will inspect him and pet his head to make him better. She has this floppy Grover doll that always gets sick and after Dr. Frog pets him, she tells me, "Dokta Frog make Gro-Gro Bett-ah."
Apparently I like to say "Mommy told you" or "What did Mommy tell you?" because she has started repeating it. We like to go to the pet store, and the last time we went we saw turtles. "Look, Evie! Turtles!" and she replied, "Yeah, Momma tell you. Turtles!" meaning, "Mommy told me there would be turtles."
Evie started crawling out of her crib over two weeks ago. She had the physical ability to do so before then; she just didn't feel the need. We took a side off of her crib and got her this fantastic crib rail, and she is back to sleeping like normal. Sometimes when she can't sleep, she'll get out of bed and sit in her chair and read books. Most of the time, when she can't sleep she'll just knock on the door. One of us will go into her room and remind her that everyone sleeps in their own bed. She'll protest and say "No night-night" over and over again, but she soon realizes resistance is futile.
For the most part, she plays well with Owen. Sometimes she seems to forget that he is a little baby and not one of her playmates at school. He thinks she's hilarious.
We switched Owen to a Britax Marathon car seat and he can now see Evie in her seat. When he gets upset in the car, she yells "No cry, Owen!" and will talk to him to get him to laugh again. It's nice having two children in the car to distract one another!
