Evie had her 18-month check-up yesterday (yesterday was actually her un-birthday, I just didn't get a chance to post). She weighs 23 pounds and 11 ounces and is 33 inches long. So she's still in the 50th percentile with weight and 90th in height. What a bean pole!
Evie is saying more and more words. The coolest is that she can now repeat most of the words that we emphasize to her; she may not be remember to say them later, but this is a big step in her development. She is also a pro at drinking with a big kid cup. She eventually forgets that she is holding something spillable so we're only letting her drink water this way. Evie is getting very good at brushing her own teeth, too. Evie has her own footstool in the bathroom that she likes to stand on and pretend to wash her toothbrush in the sink. Too cute!
The doctor said not to even worry about potty training at this point. She said that with a new baby coming, Evie is going to regress anyways. She recommended starting at two years.
Evie's also beginning to phase out her nap. The doctor told me this is completely normal. So long as she is sleeping well at night-which she is. But other Moms have a different response. It's amazing what a fervent response nap time can illicit. Anything from pity to questioning my ability as a parent. At a playdate today, one mom started to grill me on my nighttime routine. As if *I* had anything to do with it. You think I WANT for her to not nap? I have never had a child that took three hour naps, but not to even have my 45 minutes during the day is really wearing me thin. We have a designated rest time, but it's just not the same. Not complaining, just had a long day.
On the bright side, what a momentous day in history we have had.
